Known Hazards

It is absolutely essential to prepare for your trip, no matter what distance you plan to trail.  We know that Otago weather can be changeable and it is better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

The Department of Conservation has all the information you need to know to ensure a safe, enjoyable journey while leaving the smallest foot-print possible.

We recommend you observe DOC's guides and Care Codes and prepare for your trip accordingly.

Although not all relevant to WAiTAiTi TRAiLS these guides cover topics including health & safety in the outdoors; access to maps; weather advice; trip preparation; managing litter; fire safety; camping; gold fossicking; dog access; drone use and perhaps most importantly next to safety - 'giving wildlife space'.
